Scope

This document contains policies specific to the HondaJet Elite II (HA-420) type rating program. These supplement and are subordinate to the Apex Jet Academy Master Policies & Procedures (policies-jet.html). Where this document and the master policy address the same topic, the more restrictive provision governs.

Program-Specific Policies

Enrollment Prerequisites

All prerequisites in §2 of this document must be verified by the Apex Director of Training before the training record is opened and the program deposit is processed. The Director of Training may waive the minimum hour requirement for applicants with demonstrated jet or turboprop PIC time at their discretion, documented in writing. The HA-420 initial type rating program does not accept students currently enrolled in any other Apex program on a concurrent basis — full attention to the program is required.

Pre-Course eLearning Requirement

The Apex HA-420 remote eLearning pre-course must be completed with a verified passing score (80% or higher on all module assessments) before campus arrival. Students who have not completed the pre-course will not begin Phase 02 (CPT) on their scheduled first campus day — they will be assigned the pre-course on campus at no additional simulator charge, but the program timeline does not extend and the student is responsible for completing the pre-course before the first simulator session regardless of the time required.

Weather Minimums — Aircraft Phase

The HA-420 aircraft phase requires VMC conditions for Session 1. Session 2 may be conducted in actual IMC (ceiling no lower than 800 ft / 2 SM at KFXE) provided the student has demonstrated satisfactory FMS and autopilot proficiency in the simulator. The TCE makes the final go/no-go determination for all aircraft phase sessions. No aircraft phase session will be conducted with forecast thunderstorm activity within 20 NM of the planned flight route.

Practical Test Scheduling

The practical test is scheduled by the Apex TCE upon determination of student readiness — not by the student. The TCE determines readiness after reviewing the student's simulator session records, the mock oral examination result, and the aircraft phase session debrief. The student may not contact the FAA FSDO or a DPE directly to schedule a practical test — the TCE coordinates all practical test logistics. The practical test is conducted in the actual HA-420 aircraft.

Cancellation & Rescheduling

Program deposits are non-refundable after program materials are issued (typically 7 days before campus arrival). Rescheduling with 14 or more days' notice: no charge. Rescheduling 7–13 days before: $1,500 rescheduling fee. Rescheduling less than 7 days before campus arrival or no-show: forfeiture of full deposit. Medical cancellations with physician documentation: full deposit credit toward rescheduled program within 12 months.

Currency After Completion

After completing the HA-420 initial type rating, the pilot must complete a 14 CFR 61.58 proficiency check within the preceding 12 calendar months to exercise type rating privileges. Apex offers annual recurrent programs at $15,000 including 12 hours FFS and 2 hours actual aircraft. Pilots who allow currency to lapse more than 6 months must complete the full recurrent program; lapses less than 6 months require only a 61.58 proficiency check, which Apex can conduct in one day.

ITAR Compliance

Non-U.S. persons must complete ITAR pre-enrollment screening before the training record is opened. Contact itar@apexjetacademy.com. Misrepresentation of nationality or immigration status in ITAR screening is a federal crime — up to $1,000,000 per violation and 20 years imprisonment under 22 CFR Parts 120–130.
