Session-by-session Level D FFS syllabus with specific maneuver lists, performance standards, and stage gates between sessions.
The FFS phase is conducted in the Apex Level D HA-420 Full Flight Simulator at KFXE. All sessions are sequential — sessions cannot be rearranged. Each session builds on demonstrated proficiency from the prior session. The FFS phase is preceded by the Ground School and CPT phases; no FFS session may begin without Chief Standards Pilot authorization confirming those phases complete.
Each session below shows the full maneuver sequence and the stage gate requirements that must be met before the next session is authorized. Sessions are not interchangeable — they must be completed in order.
Aircraft systems orientation in the simulator; engine start sequence; taxi procedures at KFXE; normal takeoff (flaps 8°); basic aircraft handling to FL180; normal cruise configuration; descent and approach; visual approach and landing; shutdown. Instructor emphasis: G3000 touchscreen familiarity, power management, pitch/power relationships
IFR departure from KFXE; GFC 700 engagement and mode management; altitude capture and VNAV operation; ILS approach coupled and hand-flown; RNAV (GPS) approach; missed approach procedure; holding; alternate airport diversion; approach brief and checklist discipline
Engine failure at V1 — takeoff abort; engine failure after V1 — continued takeoff; single-engine climb and cruise; single-engine approach and landing; engine fire in flight; engine restart procedure; hydraulic system failure; electrical load shedding; avionics cooling failure
Pressurization failure — emergency descent; rapid decompression; oxygen mask donning; smoke and fumes — source identification and elimination; windshear encounter and escape maneuver; GPWS/TAWS alert response; TCAS RA response; gear abnormal (alternate extension); brake failure; hydraulic pump failure
Line-oriented flight training: complete revenue trip KFXE-KMIA-KFXE with simulated passenger; weather decision-making; ATC workload; abnormal injected en route; crew resource management debrief. Final mock practical test covering all ACS areas.
All of the following must be satisfied and documented by the Chief Standards Pilot before Aircraft Phase is authorized:
Trigger for remedial session: Any area graded unsatisfactory in a session debrief. The session debrief form identifies the specific deficiency — not the broad Area of Operation, but the specific maneuver or knowledge item. Remedial instruction targets that specific item.
Remedial sequence: (1) Debrief identifying specific deficiency. (2) Additional ground instruction addressing the underlying knowledge gap — minimum 2 hours. (3) Remedial FFS session — minimum 2 hours — targeting the deficient maneuver only. (4) Documented satisfactory performance in the remedial session before next scheduled session proceeds.
Three-remedial threshold: Three consecutive remedial events in the same area without demonstrated progress triggers a mandatory Director of Training review. The Director determines whether the program should continue, the training approach should change, or the program should be terminated. There is no automatic termination — the Director's judgment governs.
Remedial billing: Remedial FFS hours are billed at the Apex published FFS rate. This is not included in the program price. Remedial ground instruction time is included if the instructor is an Apex employee; external specialist instruction is billed separately.
