KFXE is Class D airspace. Contact Fort Lauderdale Approach on 124.0 (from the east) or 119.45 (from the west) prior to descent. Ground: 121.9 · Tower: 120.9 · ATIS: 125.625. Apex ramp parking is on the south side of the field. Request parking on the Apex FBO frequency or coordinate via the office prior to arrival. 24-hour customs available on field for international arrivals.

ARRIVAL BY ROAD

From I-95: Exit at Commercial Blvd (Exit 33) heading east, then south on Cypress Creek Rd, west on Lee Wagener Blvd. Campus entrance on the south side. Visitor parking adjacent to the main building. Campus shuttle to ramp available from visitor parking.

FROM KFLL OR MIA

Apex coordinates ground transport from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (KFLL, 9 miles south) and Miami International (MIA, 35 miles south) for international students arriving on commercial flights. Request transport coordination at least 24 hours in advance through the training inquiry email.

Common questions.

Does the program price really include everything?

Yes. Published prices include ground school materials, CPT access, FFS time, actual aircraft time, instructor and check airman time, the Apex TCE practical test fee (equivalent to the FAA DPE fee for a simulator-only test), and campus housing for the full duration of the program. The only items not included are transportation to KFXE and any incidental personal expenses. There are no hidden fees.

How long does a type rating take at Apex vs a simulator-only program?

Apex programs run slightly longer than simulator-only programs of the same type — because of the aircraft phase. A VLJ initial at a simulator-only center might run 4–5 days; the Apex VLJ initial runs 5 days. The additional day represents the aircraft phase, which is the core differentiator of every Apex credential. The extra time produces a credential that includes actual flight time in type.

Can I complete just the simulator portion without the aircraft?

No. The four-phase program structure is non-negotiable. Apex does not offer simulator-only type ratings. If you want a type rating that does not include actual aircraft time, FlightSafety International and CAE offer excellent simulator-only programs. Apex's value proposition is the aircraft phase — removing it produces a product Apex does not offer.

Do you accept existing logbook time for credit?

Logbook time in type does not typically reduce the Apex program. The Phase 03 and Phase 04 hours are built around the regulatory minimums and the Chief Standards Pilot's determination of what is required for proficiency — not credit for prior time. Transition programs and differences training are available for pilots holding related type certificates; contact training@apexjetacademy.com with your current qualifications.

What medical is required?

A current FAA medical certificate (Class 1, 2, or 3) is required before solo flight in Phase 04. An FAA Aviation Medical Examiner is on campus and can issue medicals with 24-hour advance scheduling. Class 3 is the minimum for flight as a student — your operator may require Class 1. BasicMed is not accepted for Apex type rating programs.

Are programs available in languages other than English?

Remote eLearning is available in English only. On-campus ground school is conducted in English. Flight operations at KFXE require English proficiency per ICAO standards. Apex does not offer translated curriculum — the aviation regulatory environment requires English language competency, and Apex's programs prepare pilots for that environment.

How does pricing compare to FlightSafety or CAE?

Apex prices from actual cost of operation plus a minimal margin — not from what the market will bear. For categories where aircraft operating costs are low (VLJ through midsize), Apex pricing is comparable to or slightly above simulator-only market rates — the aircraft component is not free, but its cost is efficiently structured. For ULR, trijet, and business jet categories, aircraft operating costs are substantial and Apex prices reflect that reality. The comparison is not between Apex and simulator-only programs — it is between a credential that includes actual aircraft time and one that does not.

Can I visit the campus before enrolling?

Campus visits are available by appointment. Contact training@apexjetacademy.com to schedule. Visits include a tour of the simulator complex, the ramp (weather and operations permitting), and a meeting with an Apex program advisor. Campus visits do not require any commitment to enroll.
