TCE checkride

The BD-700 type rating practical test is conducted to the FAA Airman Certification Standards (ACS) for the ATP certificate with a BD-700 type rating. Apex holds the standard to ATP regardless of the applicant's certificate level — a Commercial Pilot receiving a type rating must demonstrate ATP-standard performance in all aircraft tasks.

The practical test is conducted by an Apex Training Center Evaluator (TCE) in the actual Global 7500 aircraft at KFXE. The TCE has FAA-issued authority to conduct the practical test. The result is entered into IACRA and generates a temporary certificate immediately on the day of the test if passed.

The student does not schedule the practical test. The TCE schedules it upon determination of readiness following completion of all aircraft phase sessions and the TCE sign-off.

Section 2
Performance Standards — Maneuver Tolerances

The following standards apply to the practical test in the actual Global 7500 aircraft. These are Apex-specific standards which meet or exceed the ACS minimums. Where Apex specifies a tighter tolerance than the ACS (e.g., ±50 ft at DA vs ACS ±100 ft), the tighter standard applies.

Oral examination — minimum 90 minutes, all ACS knowledge areas
No area unsatisfactory; limitations recited from memory without reference
Limitations from memory: Vmo 340 KIAS, Mmo 0.925, MTOW 106,500 lbs, Va, Vfe each setting
Zero errors permitted on memory limitations
Emergency memory items: all items in correct sequence for each emergency type
No omissions; no out-of-sequence items; no hesitation requiring prompting
Normal takeoff
Within ±5 KIAS of Vr 150–168; directional control throughout; rotation smooth
Engine failure at V1 (V1 cut)
Heading ±5°; V2 155–172 KIAS ±5 KIAS maintained; no dual engine commanded; engine failure items complete before 1,500 ft AGL
ILS approach — coupled
Localizer ±½ dot, glideslope ±½ dot, airspeed ±5 KIAS throughout final; DA reached within ±50 ft
ILS approach — hand-flown
Same tolerances as coupled; no pilot-induced oscillations; stable at 1,000 ft AGL (1,500 ft recommended)
RNAV (GPS) approach — LPV or LNAV/VNAV
Lateral ±½ dot CDI, vertical ±½ dot VDI, airspeed ±5 KIAS; DA within ±50 ft
Missed approach
Go-around thrust within 3 seconds of DA; flap schedule correct; FMS missed approach engaged
Normal landing
Touchdown within first third of runway; within ±5 KIAS of Vref 122–135; directional control to taxi speed
Single-engine approach and landing
Same tolerances as normal; asymmetric thrust managed without excessive rudder; touchdown within first third
Emergency descent
Initiated within 15 seconds of recognition; Mmo/Vmo maintained ±5 KIAS/Mach 0.01 during descent
Rapid decompression
Oxygen mask donned within 5 seconds; emergency descent initiated immediately following
Flight control law degradation (FBW aircraft)
Normal → alternate → direct law identified correctly; revised manual limits applied without prompting
ETOPS diversion decision
Equal time point calculated correctly; alternate selected within ETOPS envelope; critical fuel correctly identified
No unsatisfactory area in any ACS Area of Operation
Any unsatisfactory requires remedial training and targeted re-examination before certificate issuance
Section 3
Failed Practical Test

A Notice of Disapproval specifies the exact Areas of Operation in which unsatisfactory performance was demonstrated. Re-examination covers only the failed areas. Before scheduling re-examination, the student must complete additional training in the failed area(s), receive a new recommendation from the primary instructor and the Chief Standards Pilot, and have documented satisfactory performance in the failed area.

The re-examination TCE fee is the student's responsibility — the initial practical test TCE fee is included in the program price; re-examination is not. Additional training required between attempts is billed at Apex standard rates.

Section 4
Post-Completion Currency

14 CFR 61.58 annual proficiency check: Required within the preceding 12 calendar months to exercise BD-700 type rating privileges. Apex conducts 61.58 checks in the Level D BD-700 FFS.

Apex annual recurrent — $90,000: 27 hours Level D FFS + 6 hours actual Global 7500 flight time. Satisfies 61.58 requirement. Includes all emergency and abnormal procedures currency. 2–6 days on campus depending on aircraft category.

Lapse: Under 6 months — 61.58 check only. 6–18 months — full recurrent. Over 18 months — Director of Training review; additional aircraft phase may be required.
